Heidi Cruz, the wife of Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz, on Wednesday spoke out about Donald Trump’s Twitter threats against her.
“Most of the things Donald Trump says have no basis in reality,” Heidi Cruz told reporters at a campaign stop in Wisconsin. “We are not worried. We’re focusing on our campaign, and we’re going to continue to do that.”
{mosads}She was responding after Trump threatened to “spill the beans” on her in a late-night tweet Tuesday.
Trump was angry that an anti-Trump super-PAC used an image of his wife, Melania, posing nude for an ad in Utah before Tuesday’s caucuses.
Cruz noted that the ad didn’t come from the Cruz campaign, touting her husband’s “positive, optimistic” agenda.
“We have run our campaign with the principles that Ted and I believe in,” she said. “A lot of the things that are done from time to time are not from our campaign.”
The ad shows a photo of Melania Trump posing nude for GQ Magazine with the words “Meet Melania Trump. Your next first lady.” It was paid for by Make America Awesome, an anti-Trump super PAC.
Ted Cruz had earlier in the day criticized Trump’s tweet, saying such attacks should be beneath him.
“It reveals a lot about character,” Cruz told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “It reveals a lot about class, that Donald’s instinct is to try to attack my wife and sully her.”
