Ryan: Hillary’s silence on trade ‘mystifying’

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said on Sunday that he is surprised that Hillary Clinton has not weighed in on President Obama’s trade agenda.

{mosads}“It’s about global leadership,” Ryan said of Obama’s trade goals on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Surely, a person who was secretary of State understands a little bit about leadership,” Ryan added of Clinton, a 2016 Democratic presidential candidate.

“Her refusal to take a position is a little mystifying to me,” he told host Chris Wallace.

Ryan also expressed disappointment with Clinton’s formal campaign launch on Saturday from New York’s Roosevelt Island.

“Nothing was surprising about the speech,” said Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee and Mitt Romney’s running mate in 2012.

“I think what she did is the same-old Democratic speech,” he added. “It’s not new and I think that’s what we’re going to see as this campaign unfolds.”

Ryan additionally admitted shock at how Democrats rallied against Obama’s trading strategy last week.

House Democrats helped reject the president’s proposed trade legislation during a vote on Friday.

“Democrats abandoned their president in droves,” Ryan said. “To me it was stunning that they would do this.”

“It’s ironic,” he said of Democrats’ decision. “They’re the ones making the president a lame duck in his own party.”

“The president has a lot of work to do within his own party to salvage this,” he added.

Ryan also promised that the GOP is ready should the Supreme Court decide that ObamaCare subsidies are illegal in an upcoming court ruling.

“The answer is ‘yes,’ we will have a solution for the people caught up in this law so that they’re not left in the lurch,” he told Wallace.

“This law is failing, it is collapsing,” Ryan said of ObamaCare.

“We don’t want people to fall victim to this bad law,” he added. “We want to give people freedom from ObamaCare.”
