Rubio snags support of billionaire hedge fund manager

Billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin is backing Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) presidential campaign, according to CNBC

“I’m really excited to be supporting Marco Rubio,” Griffin, who founded Chicago firm Citadel, said in a Thursday interview with the network. “He will be the next president of the United States.”

{mosads}Griffin had previously weighed whether to support Rubio or his GOP rival, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Before Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker dropped out of the race in September, Griffin donated $100,000 each to super-PACs backing Rubio, Bush and Walker’s bids.

When asked why he chose Rubio over Bush, Griffin responded, “I think that Marco Rubio has the vision of where America needs to go.”

Griffin said he called Rubio on Wednesday to offer his support, and added that he’ll “imminently” donate “several million dollars” to Rubio’s super-PAC.

Rubio has recently been consolidating support from several GOP mega donors. Last month, Idaho billionaire Frank VanderSloot and billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Singer threw their support behind Rubio’s bid.
