Ryan leaving door open for future White House bid

Even though Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has made it clear he doesn’t want, and won’t accept, the Republican presidential nomination at a contested convention this summer, he’s not ruling out a future White House bid.

“Well, no, but I don’t think that far down the road,” Ryan told CNN Tuesday night. “I made a decision in this cycle for 2016 not to run for president.”

“I don’t think it’s right to have someone parachute in who never ran for the job,” Ryan, who was Mitt Romney’s running mate in 2012, added. “And in my case, I specifically decided not to run for the job,” he said. “I don’t know how I can be any clearer than that.”

{mosads}He held a press conference in April to quiet any rumblings that he’d be a “white knight” nominee at a contested Republican convention in July.

“Let me be clear: I do not want, nor will I accept, the Republican nomination,” Ryan said. “Count me out.”
