Donald Trump late Tuesday accused Gov. Susana Martinez (R-N.M.) of shirking her responsibilities after she skipped a rally in her state for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
“Since 2000, the number of people on food stamps in New Mexico has tripled,” he said during a campaign rally in Albuquerque. “We have to get your governor to get going. She has to do a better job, OK? She’s not doing the job.

Martinez on Monday saidshe was “really busy,” adding that she would not attend Trump’s event in her state.
“I’m the governor of New Mexico and I’m really focused on what’s going on here in New Mexico — just like the announcement we just did with 100 new high-tech and research jobs, improving the education for our kids, another job announcement tomorrow,” said Martinez, the head of the Republican Governors Association. “Those are the things that I’m concentrating on and I’m going to keep concentrating on.”
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Tuesday leapt to Martinez’s defense, pointing to Martinez’s record of success.

Martinez, who has not yet backed Trump, previously endorsed Rubio before he suspended his Oval Office bid in March.
A spokesman for the governor reportedly said later that she would not be “bullied into supporting” Trump.
