Obama campaigns for Clinton with email

President Obama penned a contact-building email for Hillary Clinton on Thursday as he prepares to turn over his storied email list to the likely Democratic presidential nominee.

{mosads}”We’ve come a long way together, and there’s so much more I know we can accomplish with a leader who has the vision, strength, and persistence to keep moving us forward. Hillary is that leader,” Obama wrote in the email paid for by the Hillary Victory Fund.

The Hill reported on Wednesday that Clinton would soon tap into the email list that’s long been seen as a political gold mine for Democrats. 

Obama endorsed Clinton on June 9, after the California and New Jersey primaries. And as her backers take the reins of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), they will get long-awaited access to the massive list Obama built during his presidential campaigns.

The email Obama sent on Thursday did not give recipients an option to donate to Clinton, instead directing them to a Democratic website to provide their personal information, including email addresses. 

Sources with knowledge of the Obama list said the data includes approximately 20 million email addresses of supporters and donors.

The dormant Obama campaign reportedly still owns the list and is renting it out to the DNC. That likely means emails such as Thursday’s will come from the president or other Obama allies, instead of being sent using Clinton’s name.

The president is expected to campaign with Clinton in person soon, after postponing a campaign appearance with her in the wake of the Orlando nightclub shooting earlier this month.
