Poll: Arizona a toss-up for Clinton, Trump

Arizona is too close to call for either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, according to a new poll.

Clinton leads Trump, 35.1 to 33.5 percent, in the Arizona Republic/Morrison/Cronkite News survey out Wednesday.

{mosads}The new results leave the pair within the sampling’s 3.3-point margin of error as they fight for support in the Grand Canyon State.

Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson ranks third, with 6.9 percent, followed by Green Party nominee Jill Stein’s 1.5 percent. Another 22.9 percent remain undecided.

“I think that’s the big finding: There’s still the 20 percent out there who haven’t made up their minds,” Eric Hedberg, director of research for the Morrison Institute for Public Policy, said Wednesday.

The survey of 704 likely voters in Arizona was conducted via telephone interviews from Aug. 17 to 31. It is the first major independent statewide political poll in the traditionally red state of the 2016 race.

Former President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton’s husband, is the last Democrat to carry the state, winning in 1996. Before him, former President Harry Truman took it in 1948.

Recent polls show a tightening national race between Trump, the GOP’s presidential nominee, and Hillary Clinton, however.

Clinton, the Democratic nominee, leads Trump by about 3 points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
