S.C. extends voter registration deadline ahead of hurricane
South Carolina has extended its voter registration deadline, due to closures and evacuations caused by Hurricane Matthew.
{mosads}Government offices in 25 counties were closed ahead of the storm, according to greenvilleonline.com.
The registration deadline was originally set for Saturday.
Mailed voter registration applications will now be accepted as long as they are postmarked by Oct. 11.
Online, faxed and emailed applications can be submitted before midnight on Oct. 9.
The deadline for those who want to register in person is still Saturday.
The Category 4 hurricane is expected to hit the Florida cost Thursday night. Dangerous storm surge, destructive winds and flooding will stretch into Georgia and South Carolina by the weekend, according to the Weather Channel.
The Clinton campaign Thursday called for election officials to extend voter registration in Florida.
