Poll shows Clinton leading in nine swing states

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton leads in enough states to put her over the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidential election in November, according to a poll released Tuesday. 

{mosads}The new Washington Post/Survey Monkey survey of 15 battleground states shows Clinton leading in nine, including Georgia and Virginia, with an estimated 304 electoral votes.

Clinton’s biggest leads come in New Hampshire and Virginia. In Virginia, she has an 11-point lead over Trump, 49 to 38 percent. In New Hampshire, Clinton leads Trump 47 to 36 percent. 

Clinton also has a 4-point lead in the traditionally red Georgia, 45 to 41 percent, and holds leads in Michigan, New Mexico, Colorado, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

She trails Republican nominee Donald Trump by 2 points, 44 to 42 percent, in conservative Texas. 

Trump, meanwhile, leads in Nevada and Iowa for an estimated 138 electoral votes. Trump has a 4-point lead over Clinton in Nevada, 40 to 44 percent, and a 5-point lead in Iowa, 45 to 40 percent. 

Trump also leads by small margins in Arizona, Florida, Ohio and Texas, which account for 96 electoral votes. But those races remain toss-ups, according to the poll.  

The poll was conducted online Oct. 8–16 among 17,379 likely voters across 15 states, including between 569 and 1,702 respondents in each state. No margin of sampling error was calculated.
