Romney endorses Tillis in North Carolina
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) is endorsing North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis’s (R) Senate campaign, making him the latest big-name establishment Republican to come in for Tillis ahead of Tuesday’s primary.
{mosads}”Tomorrow, North Carolina Republicans will go to the polls to nominate a candidate for US Senate. Today, I am writing to urge you to support my friend Thom Tillis in that race,” Romney writes in an email to supporters. “Now more than ever, Americans need problem-solvers in Washington, D.C. Thom is a conservative who has been solving problems in North Carolina as Speaker of the House and I am confident he will do the same in Washington.”
Romney joins former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) and North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) as recent Tillis endorsers. He’s also benefited from millions of dollars of support from American Crossroads and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, two heavy-spending establishment groups, as he seeks to win 40 percent of the vote Tuesday and avoid a runoff against his challengers.
If Tillis can do so that would allow him to save resources and put all of his attention toward the race against Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), boosting his chances in the race.
