Rep. Titus considering bid for Reid’s seat

Rep. Dina Titus (D-Nev.) is giving “serious thought” to running for retiring Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) seat.

“I will certainly consider it. It’s a big decision, and I’ve got to talk to my family. I’m going to give it some serious thought,” she told The Hill.

Titus said she talked to Reid this shortly after he announced he’d retire.

{mosads}”We talked this morning. Like everyone, I’m disappointed. He’s been such a champion for Nevada and the whole country that it’s going to be a great loss,” she said.

Titus has a good relationship with Reid but has bucked his wishes in the past. In 2012, she decided to run for her current House seat, a safe district in Las Vegas, against Reid’s wishes. He wanted her to undertake a rematch against Rep. Joe Heck (R-Nev.), who defeated her in 2010.

Many think Reid’s preferred successor is former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto (D), but Titus said that Masto’s plans — and by implication, Reid’s hopes — wouldn’t play a role in her decision-making.

“I don’t have any idea what Catherine’s plans are. I’ve had hard races and primaries before. That’s not part of the consideration,” she said. “The Senate race, with something this big you can’t take too long but I’m not going to rush into this.”
