Warren outraises Brown in tough Mass. Senate contest

Democrat Elizabeth Warren raised over $12.1 million in the third fundraising quarter, far outpacing Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), who brought in only $7.45 million during the same period for his bid to keep his seat.

Warren raised nearly as much in September as Brown did for the entire quarter. She brought in $7 million of her total third-quarter haul in September alone, making it the best month of her campaign.

Brown posted approximately $10.2 million cash on hand. Warren has not yet announced her cash-on-hand total.

{mosads}Warren’s team has touted the grassroots support her campaign has received throughout the cycle, and in the third quarter, over 80 percent of the $12.1 million came from donations of $50 or less, and over half came from donations of $25 or less.

Brown and Warren are locked into a tight contest that both parties are heavily invested in winning. Warren has led in recent polls and turned in three strong debate performances. Brown has been fighting back just as hard.

Warren has attempted to nationalize Brown by tying him to Republican control of the Senate, an unpopular prospect in deep-blue Massachusetts. Brown, meanwhile, has tried to hit Warren on character issues by bringing up the questions surrounding her claims of Native American heritage.

Although both candidates have had to look outside the state for funds, Warren’s campaign emphasized its support from in-state donors, touting the 53,000 Massachusetts residents who gave over 100,000 donations to her campaign this quarter.

Brown’s campaign noted that nearly 60 percent of his donors this quarter were from Massachusetts.

Although both candidates posted their best fundraising quarters yet, Warren has consistently outraised the incumbent.
