Dem group pours nearly $5M into Senate, House battlegrounds

A Democratic-aligned political action committee is making a final push ahead of the Nov. 8 elections with a nearly $5 million ad blitz in crucial Senate and House races. 

{mosads}End Citizens United PAC, a group seeking to overturn the 2010 Supreme Court ruling of Citizens United, will be spending $4.7 million on TV and digital ads as well as mailers to support candidates who back campaign finance reform. The push will run until Election Day.

The group kicked off the final spending with an ad that highlights the family of Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and its ties to lobbying groups. Blunt faces a tough reelection race against Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander (D).

“With new momentum behind Democrats across the country, ECU will help ensure we elect a reformers who will work with President Hillary Clinton to overturn Citizens United,” Executive Director Tiffany Muller said.

“We’re investing in key states on behalf of candidates who will stand up to the powerful special interests and restore the American people’s voice in our democracy.”

Among the Senate battleground races, End Citizens United is spending $1.1 million in Pennsylvania, $900,000 in both Missouri and North Carolina, and $400,000 in both Nevada and New Hampshire.

Democrats need to net four seats and retain the White House to retake control of the Senate. They are defending 10 seats, while Republicans are defending 24 seats.

The group will spend nearly $1 million on competitive House races. Retaking the House is more of an uphill battle for Democrats, as they need to flip 30 seats.
