DSCC hits Ga. Republicans for Gingrey comments on gender roles

{mosads}”You know, maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade-school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is what’s important,” Gingrey said while arguing in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act, currently under review by the Supreme Court.

“This is what a father does that is maybe a little different, maybe a little bit better than the talents that a mom has in a certain area. And the same thing for the young girls, that, you know, this is what a mom does, and this is what is important from the standpoint of that union which we call marriage.”

The DSCC will press Gingrey’s primary opponents on whether they agree with him in an upcoming press release. The targets: Reps. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) and Paul Brown (R-Ga.), former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R) and businessman David Perdue (R).

Democrats are hopeful that the GOP will nominate a controversial candidate in the Republican-leaning state and give them a shot at winning the seat held by retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.).

“Do Paul Broun, Karen Handel, Jack Kingston and David Perdue also want Georgia’s children to take classes on traditional gender roles in elementary school?” says DSCC spokeswoman Regan Page in the forthcoming press release.

“Phil Gingrey’s comments on gender roles are obviously misogynistic and offensive to women across Georgia. Georgia voters absolutely deserve to know if their Republican Senate candidates agree with Phil Gingrey that dads are ‘a little bit better’ at some things than moms and if they would push for classes on traditional gender roles in schools.”
