Postal Service email network down
The Postal Service may want to switch to snail mail after the agency’s email network went down.
The Associated Press reports that a network outage is also impacting package handling in some post offices as of Friday night, as well as package scanning.
{mosads}But Postal Service spokeswoman Toni DeLancey said that the agency is working to restore the outage, first discovered Thursday afternoon, and that the outage isn’t because of anything nefarious such as hackers.
“It has nothing to do with any kind of cyber intrusion or anything like that,” she told the Associated Press.
“It’s just a technical problem while hardware was being installed.”
Hackers infiltrated the Postal Service’s networks last November and gained access to a slew of personal information for employees, including Social Security numbers, emergency contact information, and dates of birth.
The Washington Post reported at the time that the agency suspected China of being behind the hack, which included information from more than 800,000 employees.
