Dems defeat GOP in baseball game, give trophy to Scalise
Democrats soundly defeated the GOP in the annual Congressional Baseball Game Thursday night 11-2, but the score wasn’t the focus of the game that evening.
Democrats and Republicans both talked about the importance of unity throughout the game, which took place one day after a gunman opened fire at a GOP baseball practice, injuring five, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.).
The Democrats gave the GOP their trophy to keep in Scalise’s office during his recovery. He remains in critical condition, but the hospital where he is being treated said he has improved over the past 24 hours.
{mosads}Lawmakers stressed bipartisanship both on and off the field at the game.
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said that leaders from both sides of the aisle had to “break bread” together, while House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said they “were all on team Scalise tonight.”
