White House: Media ‘completely obsessed’ with Russia investigation

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday accused the media of being “completely obsessed” with the Russia investigation, turning the tables after being asked if the probe was distracting President Trump from other duties.

“You guys seem completely obsessed with this, while there are a lot of other things happening around the country and frankly a lot of other things that people care a lot more about,” she told ABC News’s Jonathan Karl. “The media refuses to cover it.”

Karl brought up White House chief of staff John Kelly’s Monday comments that Trump was “very distracted” by the investigation, although Trump and Sanders have remained adamant that the investigations do not affect the White House.

“I don’t think it’s at all affecting his ability to get his job done, and that wasn’t the point he was making,” she said.

Sanders said earlier this week that the president has been neither affected or distracted by the recent indictments in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort is facing a number of charges, including conspiracy against the United States.

The press secretary suggested the media should be more focused on “policies that actually affect” most Americans, such as the GOP tax-reform bill that would simplify tax brackets.
