Jose Andres cooks, delivers thousands of Thanksgiving meals in Puerto Rico

Celebrity chef Jose Andrés continued his relief efforts in Puerto Rico, providing thousands of Thanksgiving meals to residents on the island.

Andrés tweeted images on Tuesday showing volunteers preparing and packing meals for the holiday, with a goal of serving 40,000 Puerto Ricans.

Andrés’ non-profit disaster relief organization World Central Kitchen has already served hundreds of thousands of meals to islanders recovering from Hurricane Maria. The category 4 storm made landfall in late September, crippling infrastructure and leaving most residents without power.

The chef, a Spanish immigrant who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2013, has been a staunch critic of President Trump. He canceled his planned restaurant in Trump’s D.C. hotel after Trump announced his candidacy in 2015.

He previously called out the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the agency leading the government’s response efforts, saying that its base of operations there is “the most inefficient place on earth.” 

The government is “leaving the people of Puerto Rico hungry and thirsty,” he said in the tweet addressed to Trump.
