Obama’s approval hits new low, poll finds
President Obama’s approval rating fell to its lowest level in CNN polling on Thursday — the latest in a series of polls to record the trend.
Obama’s approval rating stands at 41 percent, a 3-point dip since last month and the lowest since Obama was sworn into office. Another 56 percent of people disapprove of the president.
{mosads}Obama’s approval rating is sliding as an increasing amount of the public believes he is losing influence over the national agenda. Forty-two percent of people think Obama will have greater influence than Congress to steer the direction of the country next year, down 19 points from this time last year. A majority, 50 percent, think Congress will lead in influence.
CNN noted that the majority of the drop off in Obama’s approval rating came from people living in the suburbs, where 37 percent approve of him. Exit polls from last year’s presidential election show Obama narrowly lost suburban areas to Mitt Romney, 50-48 percent.
A battery of polling in the last two weeks found the president’s job approval rating sinking to record lows nearly two months into the shaky rollout of the healthcare law’s exchanges.
A CBS News poll Wednesday recorded Obama’s approval at the lowest level, with 37 percent. A Washington Post/ABC News poll showed his approval slightly higher, at 42 percent — still a record low for its poll.
A Quinnipiac poll released last week recorded Obama with a 39 percent approval rating. Gallup’s daily tracking poll currently has Obama’s approval rating at 40 percent with 53 percent of people disapproving.
The poll surveyed 843 people and has a 3.5 percent margin of error.
