Cruz wants Senate focus on ‘executive abuse’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) envisions a Republican-controlled Senate with an aggressive and conservative agenda, he said in an interview with The Washington Post published Monday.

{mosads}Most experts expect the Senate to change hands on Election Day. Cruz said he wants an upper chamber that’s “looking at the abuse of power, the executive abuse, the regulatory abuse, the lawlessness that, sadly, has pervaded this administration.” He added that a full repeal of ObamaCare is a priority by “every means possible.”

As the vice chairman for grassroots outreach at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, he’s come to bat for Republican candidates in tough races. But if the Senate turns red, Cruz could be a thorn in the side of the GOP establishment.

The Texas senator hasn’t always played nice with Republican leadership; he refused to endorse fellow Texan and Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) until after his primary and hasn’t backed another term as Republican leader for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

To add to the intrigue, Cruz is also widely considered to be weighing a presidential bid. He’ll most likely be looking to separate himself from the crowded field during the run-up to the GOP primary.
