Clinton surrogate Albright blasts Bush on Iraq

Madeleine Albright is blasting GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush over his recent remarks on Iraq while defending former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a Democratic presidential candidate.  

Writing in a Politico op-ed posted late Monday, the former secretary of State said “Bush’s brazen attempts to rewrite history in a series of campaign appearances last week cannot go unchallenged.”

{mosads}“By blaming President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the rise of [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria], Governor Bush is clearly seeking to absolve his brother’s administration of responsibility for today’s problems in Iraq. This argument may serve Governor Bush’s political interests, but it does a disservice to the truth,” Albright wrote.

Albright hit the former Florida governor’s “emerging narrative” about the Iraq War, noting that his brother, former President George W. Bush, penned the withdrawal date for U.S. forces at the end of 2011. 

Albright also said Bush’s ideas for combating ISIS in the Middle East “look remarkably similar” to what the Obama administration is doing, including emphasizing the role of the local military in Iraq.
