Sanders brings his breakfast to the White House
Bernie Sanders decided to bring his own breakfast to his Oval Office meeting with President Obama on Thursday.
The White House typically serves food and drinks to guests, but Sanders stopped at a Peet’s Coffee in downtown Washington to pick up coffee and a scone before heading over to the White House, according to reports.
The highly anticipated sit-down comes two days after Sanders’s rival, Hillary Clinton, claimed victory in the Democratic presidential primary.
Obama has congratulated Clinton but is using the closed-door meeting trying to make peace with Sanders, who ran a sometimes vicious campaign.
The president and the Sanders, who have clashed at times over the past seven years, were photographed smiling and laughing as they walked down the Rose Garden colonnade into the Oval Office.
White House staffers and members of the media lined the driveway to catch a glimpse of Sanders as he entered the complex.
