Top Donald Trump aide Kellyanne Conway on Thursday morning had a heated exchange with CNN’s Chris Cuomo over the president-elect’s sons’ ties to charity organizations.
In a contentious interview on CNN’s “New Day,” Cuomo accused Conway of making the same defense that Hillary Clinton made about her ties to the Clinton Foundation, which Conway emphatically denied.
Conway was then asked why Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. were distancing themselves in recent days from the charity organizations that have raised red flags among critics.
{mosads}“Because they support their father and they know that we’ll never get a fair shake in the Trump administration, and that’s unfortunate,” Conway responded. “I think this conversation shows that.”
Eric Trump told the New York Times on Wednesday night that he would no longer solicit contributions for the Eric Trump Foundation. The move came days after it was revealed that the organization was auctioning off a chance to have coffee with Trump’s sister, Ivanka Trump, who is expected to play a role in their father’s administration.
Conway said that the beneficiaries of the Eric Trump Foundation will now a pay a price because its founder has to distance himself from the organization.
“Those people are going to suffer now because folks are pointing out what they think to be improprieties,” Conway said. “I didn’t say I necessarily agree, I just think they will always do the right thing,” she added of the Trump children.
