GOP senator implores Rep. Lewis to come to inauguration
GOP Sen. Ben Sasse (Neb.) urged civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) to change his mind about skipping Donald Trump’s inauguration.
“To John Lewis, one of my heroes,” Sasse wrote on Twitter Friday. “Please come to the Inauguration. It isn’t about a man. It is a celebration of peaceful transfer of power.”

Lewis announced Friday that he would skip inauguration for the first time in his 30 years in the House.
He said in an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that he doesn’t consider Trump a “legitimate president” because of Russia’s meddling in the election aimed at helping him win.
Sasse was one of the most vocal “Never Trump” Republicans, and he never backed Trump’s White House bid.
