Pelosi backs all-female ‘SNL’ portrayals of Trump administration

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appeared to endorse the idea of an all-female cast playing the roles of President Trump and his administration officials on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”

In a tweet on Wednesday, Pelosi linked to a Huffington Post article outlining women to play Trump, top aides and Cabinet members.

“Certainly an interesting idea. #WomenSucceed,” Pelosi tweeted, invoking a hashtag frequently used by Democrats to promote policies relevant to women.

{mosads}Social media lit up Monday night after Politico reported that Trump was rattled by Melissa McCarthy’s brutal caricature of White House press secretary Sean Spicer in last Saturday’s episode. What bothered Trump the most, according to Politico, was that Spicer was played by a woman.

“Trump doesn’t like his people to look weak,” a top Trump donor told Politico.

That set off calls for actresses to play the rest of Trump’s team. Rosie O’Donnell, who’s had a long-running feud with Trump, said she’s available to play White House chief strategist Steve Bannon if “SNL” asks.

The Huffington Post suggested a full roster of female actresses to help “SNL” lampoon — and further provoke — the Trump administration.

It calls for keeping McCarthy as Spicer; casting O’Donnell as Bannon; Rachel Dratch as White House chief of staff Reince Priebus; Kristen Wiig as Jared Kushner; Janeane Garofalo as Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin; Betty White as Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions; Ellen DeGeneres as Vice President Pence; and Amy Poehler as Ivanka Trump.

As a bonus, The Huffington Post offered an alternative to Alec Baldwin playing the president: Meryl Streep.

“Not only did Meryl Streep rip into Trump at the Golden Globes. Not only did Trump prove it got under his skin when he responded by calling the actress ‘over-rated.’ But Streep already played him last year in Central Park, so you know she’d be more than willing to do it again. Please do it again, Meryl. Please do it again. (Sorry, Alec.)”
