Merriam-Webster again needles Trump over spelling fumbles

Merriam-Webster Dictionary poked fun at President Trump on Friday after his Twitter account repeatedly misspelled the word “hereby.”

The dictionary company shared its definition for the word:

Trump repeatedly misspelled “hereby” in tweets Friday floating an “investigation” surrounding House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) 2010 meeting with former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, which was attended by Russian ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

“I hear by demand a second investigation,” Trump wrote in the first iteration of the tweet, which disappeared and was replaced with an identical tweet that used “hearby.” That tweet also disappeared and was replaced by a third one that correctly spelled the word “hereby.”

Trump was widely mocked on Twitter for the mishaps.

It’s not the first time that Merriam-Webster has used its Twitter account to needle Trump. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Merriam-Webster mocked Trump’s misspelling of several words by trying to define the non-existent terms.

More recently, the dictionary’s Twitter account followed-up with the definition for “feminism” after top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway said the word “seems to be very anti-male, and it certainly is very pro-abortion.”
