George W. Bush on mother’s death: She ‘kept us laughing until the end’
Former President George W. Bush celebrated his mother Barbara Bush’s life in a statement released shortly after her passing Tuesday.
“Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was,” Bush said in the statement.
“Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions. To us, she was so much more,” he said. “Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until the end. I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother.”

Barbara Bush died Tuesday at the age of 92.
The former first lady had been hospitalized several times throughout the year over complications involving chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure.
She had decided against seeking additional medical treatment in her final days and instead chose to focus on comfort care at her home in Houston.
She is survived by her husband, former President George H.W. Bush; five children; a brother; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
