Trump ahead of visit with Texas shooting survivors: ‘We are going to have a little fun’

President Trump on Thursday told reporters that he and his team would be having “fun” on a trip to Texas where the president is expected to meet with survivors from last week’s deadly school shooting in Santa Fe.

Trump made the comment to reporters as he was boarding Air Force One to leave for the Lone Star state, where he is also scheduled for several meetings with supporters.

“We are going to Dallas, we are going to Houston. We are going to have a little fun today. Thank you very much,” Trump told reporters in his brief remarks before boarding.

The remark was noticed by gun violence activists, who questioned Trump’s use of the word to describe a trip to meet with shooting survivors and first responders.

“Fun?” tweeted Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, a gun control advocacy group.

Trump is scheduled to meet with survivors of last week’s deadly shooting at a Santa Fe, Texas, high school where 10 people were killed when a gunman attacked the school.

The president after the shooting promised the families of the shooting victims that his administration would be with them “forever.”

“We grieve for the terrible loss of life, and send our support and love to everyone affected by this horrible attack in Texas. To the students, families, teachers and personnel at Santa Fe High School: we are with you in this tragic hour, and we will be with you forever,” he said last week at the White House.
