West Hollywood City Council votes to have Trump’s Walk of Fame star removed

The West Hollywood City Council voted Monday night to approve a proposal calling for President Trump’s star to be removed from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The City Council confirmed to The Hill that it “voted unanimously to approve” the resolution, which urges the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove the marker.

{mosads}It now plans to send a formal letter to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D), the Los Angeles City Council and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for consideration, ABC News reported Tuesday morning.

West Hollywood council members John D’Amico and Lindsey Horvath reportedly brought forth the resolution seeking to remove the president’s star, which was unveiled in 2007, citing Trump’s alleged treatment of women.

“The City Council will consider adopting a resolution urging the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove President Donald J. Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, due to his disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country,” the resolution reads.

“Having a ‘star’ on the Walk of Fame is a privilege that is highly sought after by those in the entertainment industry, allowing Mr. Trump to continue to have a star in light of his behavior toward women, particularly in the #timesup and #metoo movements, should not be acceptable in the Hollywood and entertainment industry communities,” the resolution continued, referring to recent movements against sexual misconduct.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has said in the past that it would never remove stars because of a potential backlash.

But the City Council also pointed out in its resolution that the Walk of Fame is still the “property of the City of Los Angeles” and that the city has the “ultimate responsibility for the condition and maintenance of the Walk of Fame.”

Trump’s star has been vandalized multiple times.

Most recently, a man used a pickax to vandalize it.

The man, Austin Clay, later claimed responsibility for vandalizing Trump’s star and turned himself in at the Beverly Hills police headquarters. He was reportedly bailed out by a man who vandalized the star years ago, James Otis.
