Rep. Black: ObamaCare gives taxpayer money to abortion providers
Black’s comment was prompted by a recent decision by the Washington, D.C., Health Benefit Exchange Authority Executive Board to give Planned Parenthood more than $350,000 to help enroll D.C. residents into the ObamaCare healthcare exchange system.
{mosads}GOP lawmakers have ensured that federal funds cannot be used to pay for abortions, but organizations like Planned Parenthood provide other medical procedures for which federal funds can be used.
Recently, Black and several other Republicans asked the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate how federal funds are used by abortion providers. Black said she hoped the GAO study would “mobilize” efforts to defund abortion providers.
“I am glad that the GAO recently agreed to my request to investigate the funding of Planned Parenthood and other abortion services providers,” Black said. “I hope that the findings of this investigation will help mobilize the support necessary to finally put an end to the federal funding of these groups once and for all.”
Democrats defend the spending because Planned Parenthood provides many preventative healthcare services for low-income women, such as cancer screenings.
