Reid: ‘Time to move on’ from Clinton email scandal

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday slammed Republicans for focusing their fire on the FBI for not recommending charges against Hillary Clinton.

“It’s over. It’s time to move on,” Reid said. “Republican attempts to continue their political hit job are just that: They’re political.”

{mosads}Reid’s remarks are the first time he’s weighed in on the Clinton email scandal since FBI Director James Comey said Tuesday morning that he would recommend no charges against Clinton for her use of a private email server while secretary of State.

Republicans are showing no signs of dropping the subject. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) called on the FBI to release its three-and-a-half-hour interview with Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, from Saturday.

Reid said GOP attempts to dig into the FBI investigation were “wastefulness” and tied their strategy to their presumptive presidential nominee, Donald Trump.

“Republicans are in such desperate shape. Because of Trump, they would seize upon anything,” he told reporters.

Some Senate Republicans have also questioned Comey’s integrity over the decision, which came after Attorney General Loretta Lynch met with former President Bill Clinton last week.

Lynch has said they didn’t discuss the investigation, and Comey on Tuesday stressed the independence of his probe.

Reid reiterated his support for Comey, saying, “He’s been a fair, impartial director of the FBI.”
