Julia Louis-Dreyfus announces she has breast cancer, calls for universal health care

Actress and “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been diagnosed with breast cancer, according to a statement on her Twitter.

The comedian and actress called for universal health care in a brief statement revealing her diagnosis.

“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” she wrote Thursday.

“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union,” she added. “The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”

{mosads}Dreyfus, who has won six Emmys for her starring role in “Veep,” plays the role of Selina Meyer on the hit HBO show. In a statement, the network praised Dreyfus’s “tenacity” in the face of the disease.

“Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,” the network said in a statement. “We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.”
