Dems want ‘Hamilton’ star for convention

Democratic operatives are hoping the creator and star of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” will appear at their party’s national convention.

Officials have reached out to Lin-Manuel Miranda about appearing at next month’s event in Philadelphia, according to Politico.

{mosads}Miranda’s name tops a list of celebrities operatives are targeting for the convention, according to the report.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) officials and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign are also seeking younger musical acts, the report said.

Luis Miranda Jr., Lin-Manuel Miranda’s father, on Tuesday said the rumors about his son’s possible appearance at the convention are premature.

“There is no truth to these rumors,” he said.

Lin-Manuel Miranda confirmed last week he is leaving “Hamilton” on July 9 after the blockbuster hit won 11 Tony Awards.

Lin-Manuel Miranda said last Thursday that rallying Hispanic voter turnout remains a goal of his career off Broadway.

“I’m going to be trying to get out the Latino vote as hard as possible,” he said.

Hispanic turnout could prove crucial in the election. Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has high unfavorable ratings among the voting bloc, something that was exacerbated by his recent attacks on a federal judge’s Mexican heritage.
