Ryan searches for GOP path on poverty

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is on the hunt for a conservative path to lead Americans out of poverty.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Ryan, the former vice presidential pick and potential 2016 candidate, has been traveling to inner cities and huddling with conservative think tanks as he works to put together a comprehensive Republican plan to help those suffering in the economy.

The plan would aim to replace Democratic efforts to lift the poorest, which Ryan and other Republicans have dismissed as bureaucratic and top down. It also would aim to be similar in scope and vision to Ryan’s budget plans, which had lifted him to the highest echelons of the national Republican Party.

Ryan hopes to roll out the plan next year, as he hopes to take control of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee in 2015, after the current head, Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), steps down due to party term limits.
