Professional wrestler Glenn Jacobs — better known as the demon “Kane” in the wrestling ring — says he thinks he can win the election as the next mayor of Knox County, Tenn., given the desire among voters for political outsiders.
“The current political environment is very conducive to people who are, for lack of a better term, outsiders and haven’t been in politics before,” Jacobs told Hill.TV co-hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
Jacobs won the Republican nomination in Knox County by just 17 votes, but is general election favorite voter Democrat Linda Haney given the county’s GOP tilt.
President Trump swept the county with almost 40,000 more votes than Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, according to Knox News.
Jacobs, a libertarian, says there are similarities between politics and wrestling.
“They’re both full-contact sports,” Jacobs joked in response to a question over how life on the campaign trail compares to the pro wrestling world.
Jacobs isn’t the first wrestler to look make a successful crossover into politics.
Former professional wrestler Jesse Ventura was the governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003.
