Trump on Charlottesville victim: ‘She will be long remembered by all’

President Trump on Wednesday praised the woman who was killed in the weekend’s violence in Charlottesville, Va.

“Memorial service today for beautiful and incredible Heather Heyer, a truly special young woman,” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

“She will be long remembered by all!”

{mosads}A memorial service is being held Wednesday morning in Charlottesville for Heather Heyer, who was killed after a car drove into a crowd of people protesting against a white supremacist rally in Virginia. The alleged driver, James Alex Fields Jr., was photographed attending the white supremacist event and has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Trump said Tuesday he has not reached out to Heyer’s family.

“No. I will be reaching out,” he said.

Trump called the driver of the car a murderer and said what he did was a “horrible, horrible inexcusable thing.”

The president also praised Heyer’s mother, Susan Bro, after she thanked him for his “words of comfort” when he condemned on Monday the groups behind the rally.

“I thought that the statement put out, the mother’s statement I thought was a beautiful statement,” he said. “I’ll tell you — it was something that I really appreciated. I thought it was terrific.”

Trump spurred controversy Tuesday when he said during a defiant press conference there is “blame on both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville.
