Trump blasts media reports predicting Kelly’s ouster

President Trump ripped the news media on Tuesday night over reports that his chief of staff John Kelly could be the next staffer to exit the White House.

In two tweets Tuesday evening, Trump attacked the “dishonest” news media for reports that Kelly will soon be “fired.”

“The Fake News is at it again, this time trying to hurt one of the finest people I know, General John Kelly, by saying he will soon be fired,” Trump said.

“This story is totally made up by the dishonest media. The Chief is doing a FANTASTIC job for me and, more importantly, for the USA!” he continued.

Trump’s tweets come on the heels of a Vanity Fair report that called the relationship between Trump and his chief of staff “irreparable,” saying the two men fight often.

“He doesn’t love this job. He’s doing it as a duty for the country,” one source said, according to the report.

Trump has repeatedly defended his chief of staff in the face of the media reports. On Saturday, he told reporters that Kelly would remain in the White House for the remainder of his first term, as well as the duration of a second term.

“John Kelly is one of the best people I’ve ever worked with. He’s doing an incredible job,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “And he told me for the last two months, he loves it more than anything he’s ever done. He’s a military man, but he loves doing this, which is chief of staff, more than anything he’s ever done.”

“He’s doing a great job. He will be here — in my opinion — for the entire seven remaining years,” he said.
