Trump has lunch with Florida governor at golf club
President Trump talked to Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) about hurricane recovery during a lunch on Sunday, according to the White House.
{mosads}“President Donald J. Trump invited Florida Governor Rick Scott to join him for lunch on Sunday to discuss ongoing hurricane recovery efforts, the need to improve the nation’s aging infrastructure and other matters important to Floridians,” said spokeswoman Helen Ferré, according to reporters traveling with the president in Florida.
“The two leaders discussed ongoing hurricane recovery efforts, the need to improve the nation’s aging infrastructure, and many other matters important to the people of Florida,” Ferré added following the lunch. “President Trump spoke about the tax-cut bill that he signed into law before the Christmas holiday and the economic growth it is already unleashing across the country. The president underscored the importance of Gov. Scott’s leadership in Florida, and the two indicated that they look forward to working together in the new year.”
Trump earlier this year urged Scott to run for Senate during an appearance in Florida to assess damage from Hurricane Irma. Scott is considered a top contender to challenge Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) in 2018.
Trump is spending the holidays at Mar-a-Lago, his resort in Palm Beach, Fla., which he has dubbed the “winter White House.”
The president spent the holidays at Mar-a-Lago last year when he was president-elect.
Trump also traveled to his Florida golf club Sunday morning, according to White House pool reports, marking the sixth day in a row he has visited the resort.
