Ivanka Trump on Sunday said “our hearts are with Jacksonville” after a mass shooting in Florida reportedly left several people dead or wounded.

“As we await further details, our hearts are with Jacksonville and all those affected by today’s tragic mass shooting,” the president’s daughter and senior adviser tweeted.

Other public figures offered support and condolences following the shooting, which took place at a video game tournament and reportedly left the suspect dead.

“Horrifying news from #Jacksonville this afternoon,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) tweeted. “Have spoken to local authorities & am still awaiting more information on this shooting. Situation still unfolding, law enforcement is asking everyone to avoid the area. #Sayfie”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement that President Trump has been notified and is monitoring the situation.

“My heart breaks for more of my fellow Floridians today,” Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) tweeted. “For more families whose lives will never be the same, for another grieving community, and for the generation raised in a country that has allowed horrific shootings to become commonplace, we must say, ‘enough.’ ENOUGH!”

In another tweet, he said “politicians offering only thoughts and prayers are acting cowardly.”

In June, researchers reported there had been 154 mass shootings in the U.S. in 2018
