Celebrity endorsements for 2016

A number of notable celebrities are throwing their support behind 2016 presidential contenders.

Most of the famous faces are solidly in Hillary Clinton’s camp, with a host of celebs, including actress Lena Dunham and NBA icon Magic Johnson, taking to Twitter to show their support for the Democratic front-runner.

{mosads}But a few stars, including Willie Robertson from A&E’s “Duck Dynasty,” have favorites on the GOP side as well. The CEO of Duck Commander was a supporter of Bobby Jindal before switching to Donald Trump. And former NBA star Dennis Rodman is backing businessman Donald Trump.

The Hill is keeping a list of prominent stars and the 2016 hopefuls they are supporting.

CELEBRITIES BACKING DEMOCRATS

50 Cent – The rapper told The Daily Beast he is “all-in for Hillary 2016.”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – The NBA legend has compared Sanders favorably to Republican Donald Trump, whom he has repeatedly jabbed.

Uzo Aduba — The actress from Netflix’s hit “Orange is the New Black” tweeted her support for Clinton.

Ben Affleck – The ”Good Will Hunting” and “Argo” star donated to Clinton.

Dianna Agron – The actress attended an L.A. fundraiser for Clinton.

Clay Aiken — The “American Idol” who fell short in his own bid for Congress last year initially panned Clinton’s announcement video on Twitter. “Hillary, I love you. But why are you the stiffest and most scripted looking person in this video,” he wrote. He confirmed his support for Clinton in a later tweet.

Jessica Alba – The actress attended a Clinton fundraiser in California.

Elizabeth Banks – The actress tweeted “Hell Yaaas. Proud supporter of @HillaryClinton. One radical woman.”

Drew Barrymore – The actress and her husband hosted a fundraiser for Clinton in New York City.

Beyonce – The singer attended a Clinton fundraiser event in New York City, Bloomberg reports.

Kelly Clarkson – The American Idol singer endorsed Clinton in a Rolling Stone interview. “I’m a fan of Hillary. She’s badass,” she said.

George Clooney – The actor said over a decade ago that Clinton was “the most polarizing figure in American politics.” Now he says “she’s ready to be president.”

Daniel Craig – The James Bond actor donated $47,300 to a pro-Sanders super-PAC.

Jamie Lee Curtis – The actress appeared in a video endorsing Clinton.

Matt Damon – The actor is supporting Clinton.

Leonardo DiCaprio – The actor donated to Clinton and attended a fundraiser with his mother, according to Variety.

Robert DeNiro – “I think that she’s paid her dues,” the actor told The Daily Beast about Hillary Clinton. “There are going to be no surprises, and she has earned the right to be president and the head of the country at this point. It’s that simple,” he continued. “And she’s a woman, which is very important because her take on things may be what we need right now.”

Kat Dennings — The “2 Broke Girls” actress tweeted “Hillary” after Clinton’s announcement.

Danny DeVito — DeVito is a Sanders supporters, jokingly tweeting “Bernie Sanders… you’re our only hope Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

Lena Dunham — The “Girls” creator and star took to Instagram to post the famous picture of Clinton reading her BlackBerry. Dunham’s caption read: “This is Hillary reading a text from me that says, ‘With you every step of the way, gurl’ #mypresident.”

Jesse Eisenberg – The actor has donated to Clinton.

Mia Farrow – The actress backs Sanders. “However you may vote, Bernie Sanders is pretty great. He doesn’t pander, is consistent and clear on important issues,” she tweeted.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson — Playing off Clinton’s announcement tweet, the “Modern Family” star wrote, “I have an announcement: I’m not running for president. Yay #Hillary2016!”

Will Ferrell — The comedian and star actor initially endorsed Sanders, but later switched his support to Clinton.

America Ferrera — The former “Ugly Betty” star, who stumped for Clinton in 2008, is back in her camp. “I believed in her then, I believe in her now,” she wrote on Twitter.

Jamie Foxx – The actor, singer, and comedian endorsed Clinton to TMZ.

Vivica A. Foxx – The actress and producer tweeted her support for Clinton.

Morgan Freeman – The actor narrated the “All the Good” ad for Clinton’s campaign and said the candidate “always stood with us”.

Jennifer Garner – The actress called Clinton “our next president” at a 2013 Save the Children benefit and has donated to the campaign.

Tony Goldwyn – “I think by a mile she’s the most competent, the most experienced and I think she’ll be a great president,” the “Scandal” actor told the New York Post’s Page Six about Clinton. “And I think it’s time we have a woman president.”

Ellie Goulding — The singer tweeted “Hillary” after Clinton announced her bid.

Ariana Grande — The pop star tweeted “yaaas @hillaryclinton” after Clinton’s announcement.

Salma Hayek – The actress helped launch “Latinos for Hillary”.

Abbi Jacobson — The comedian and “Broad City” creator tweeted a picture of herself with a Hillary Clinton mask titled, “HERE WE GO @HillaryClinton!”

Kendall Jenner – The reality star showed her support for Clinton on Instagram with a post reading: “Shirt by @themarcjacobs. History by @hillaryclinton. #MadeForHistory #ImWithHer.”

Elton John – The singer will perform at Clinton’s “I’m With Her” concert at Radio City Music Hall in March. “I’ve always been a big Hillary fan. I hope she’s the next American president,” he told the AP.

Magic Johnson — “I feel @HillaryClinton will be a great President for the American people and she will make sure that everyone has a voice!” the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard said on Twitter. Johnson hosted a Clinton fundraiser in 2007.

Jon Bon Jovi — The New Jersey rock star held a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton. But those Democratic leanings haven’t affected his friendship with Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.). Bon Jovi allowed the GOP contender to play his songs at a campaign launch event.

Kim Kardashian – The reality star endorsed Clinton and posted a selfie on Twitter. “I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country! #HillaryForPresident,” she wrote.

Jeffrey Katzenberg – The CEO of Dreamworks Animation has donated over one million dollars to Clinton’s super-PAC.

Carole King — The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter kept it short, saying “I’m in,” posting a link to Clinton’s announcement tweet.

Diane Kruger — The German-born actress and recently naturalized U.S. citizen posted a picture of Clinton on Instagram, saying “Please America, make her President!”

Padma Lakshmi — The “Top Chef” host tweeted art of Clinton as Rosie the Riveter in the classic “We can do it!” image. “Oh yes, it will finally happen. #Hillary2016,” she added.

Spike Lee – “When Bernie gets into the White House, he will do the right thing,” said the director, citing one of his classic films.

John Legend – The singer performed at Clinton’s birthday party and has donated to her campaign.

Lil B — The rapper voiced his support for Hillary Clinton, signing “You gonna win that presidency.” But lately he’s been backing Bernie Sanders, tweeting “Right now it’s all about Bernie.”

Justin Long – The actor tweeted a pro-Sanders infograph and wrote “A president who represents the people or a president who represents banks, corporations + the media?”

Eva Longoria – The “Desperate Housewives” actress campaigned with Clinton in Nevada.

Demi Lovato – The singer introduced Clinton at a University of Iowa campus rally, saying the candidate “completely embodies the concept of women empowerment.”

Tobey Maguire – The “Spider-Man” star hosted a fundraiser for Clinton in Los Angeles.

Dave Matthews — “When I hear someone like Bernie Sanders talking, I think there’s a hope,” the musician told Rolling Stone. “That’s a guy who is talking about something real and that isn’t insulted by being called a liberal,” he added. 

Seth McFarlane – The “Family Guy” creator is on Team Sanders and introduced him at a Los Angeles rally in October.

Kate McKinnon — The actress who portrays Hillary on “Saturday Night Live,” told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m rooting for her, obviously.”

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen – The “Full House” twins were spotted leaving a Clinton fundraiser in New York City.

Katy Perry – The musician has been a vocal Clinton supporter. She performed at a “Hillary for America” rally in Iowa on the candidate’s birthday and got her a “POTUS” necklace as a gift. She also took over Clinton’s Instagram the day of the rally.

LA Reid – The Epic Records CEO and chairman tweeted: “No need to be idealistic when you already know what works @HillaryClinton @HlLLARY #experience”

Shonda Rhimes – The “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy” producer showed her support for Clinton in a video. “I’m with her because I want to maintain my freedoms,” Rhimes says. “I’m with her because I want my daughters to grow up safe. And I’m with her because every child in this country deserves an equal shot at the American Dream.”

Gina Rodriguez – The “Jane the Virgin” says she supports Clinton “because she is fighting for immigration reform and fighting to keep our families together — and that is the reason why, Latinos, we need to vote.”

Ja Rule — “I’m a Democrat, so yeah, so I would vote Hillary,” the rapper and actor told Fox Business. But he also called Jeb Bush a “good candidate.”  

Jennifer Lopez — “I’m very excited by the news. I think it’s time for a woman,” the actress and singer told E! about Clinton at the MTV Movie Awards.

Ne-Yo — The music superstar called told The Hill that Clinton was “a favorite of mine.” ” I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with her,” he added. “Looking forward to seeing what happens to her when she gets into a position of power, so to speak.”

Josh Peck — The former “Drake and Josh” star tweeted, “Hillary’s mah Homie.”

Jeremy Piven — The “Entourage” star is a Sanders supporter.

Amy Poehler — The “Parks and Recreation” star posted a gif of her and Clinton from her Saturday Night Live days, adding: “Let’s do this. #Hillary2016 @HillaryClinton.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers — The band members support Sanders.

John C. Reilly — The actor backs Bernie Sanders.

Ronda Rousey — The MMA fighter told Maxim she is backing Sanders because “he doesn’t take any corporate money.”

Mark Ruffalo — The actor used to back Sen. Elizabeth Warren but is now supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders.

RuPaul — The drag queen and host of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” tweeted a play on his own song lyrics, saying, “You betta work, @HillaryClinton!”

Susan Sarandon – The actress is backing Sanders. “We need a leader who is courageous and levelheaded in times of crisis: Bernie Sanders #Bernie2016,” she wrote on Facebook.

Sarah Silverman — The comedian introduced Sanders at an event in Los Angeles.

Snoop Dogg — “Just to have a woman speaking from a global perspective as far as representing America, I’d love to see that. So I’ll be voting Ms. Clinton,” the rapper told Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.”

Barbra Streisand – “We need a woman president, we need compassion [and] we need to have a person who comes from the heart,” said the Clinton-supporting actress. 

Meryl Streep – The actress paid tribute to Clinton at the 2012 Women in the World conference. Clinton has also said she would want Streep to play her in a movie.

Waka Flocka Flame — The Atlanta rapper told MTV he is backing Hillary. “A woman could do it,” he said.

Kerry Washington — The “Scandal” actress shared her support of Clinton in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I’m very thrilled. I’m excited for her, and I’m sure I’ll be hitting the stump trail,” she said. Washington stumped for Barack Obama during his 2012 reelection campaign.

George Wendt — The “Cheers” star is backing Bernie Sanders.

Kanye West – The rapper is reportedly a big Clinton donor.

Bradley Whitford – The actor attended a Clinton fundraiser in California.

Olivia Wilde — A one-time supporter of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) for president, the “House” actress told The Daily Beast that Clinton’s position on healthcare reform and women’s rights helped win her over. “The fact that she feels the plight of women and girls as the most important issue of the 21st century is a huge reason why I’m supporting her,” Wilde said.

Pharrell Williams – The singer endorsed Clinton on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “It’s time for a woman to be in there,” he said of the presidency.

Jeffrey Wright — Wright, who appeared in “The Hunger Games” and HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” shared Clinton’s announcement video on Twitter. “Nice inclusive portrait of America @HillaryClinton – great message. It’s on. #Hillary2016,” he wrote.

Neil Young — The musician’s manager said Young is a “longtime supporter” of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

 

CELEBRITIES BACKING REPUBLICANS

Tim Allen – The actor and comedian told Fox News’s Megyn Kelly that John Kasich has a “good heart” and he would vote for him if it came down to resumes.

Kirstie Alley – The actress tweeted her praise of Trump when he appeared on “60 Minutes.” “Watching @realDonaldTrump on 60 minutes holding his own with Scott Pelley. Pelley acting like an antagonist asshat. I like Trump…fire at will,” she wrote.

Stephen Baldwin – The actor, who was fired from Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice” twice, told CNNthe businessman would be a great president “because he’s not a politician” and “he doesn’t care what anybody thinks.”

Scott Baio — Gov. Scott Walker (Wis.) has yet to formally launch a bid, but he’s got the support of “Happy Days” star Baio, who posted a picture with Walker on Twitter. “Gov. Walker sounds a lot like President Reagan. #WalkerForPres,” he wrote.

Charles Barkley — The NBA hall-of-famer might be crossing the aisle in 2016. The Dem voter told Sports Illustrated, “I like Chris Christie. I like Jeb Bush. I like those guys.”

Vitor Belfort — The MMA fighter is backing Ben Carson, according to Fox News.

Tom Brady – The New England Patriots quarterback has called Trump a friend and told reporters it “would be great” if he won.

Gary Busey — The actor is backing Donald Trump. Busey said Trump “can change the country after the last eight years.”

Johnny Damon — The former MLB star is backing Trump.

Mike Ditka — The Hall of Fame football coach told the Chicago Sun-Times he believes Trump “has the fire in his belly to make America great again and probably do it the right way”.

The Duggar Family — An apparent endorsement from the stars of the TLC reality show “19 Kids and Counting” disappeared from Mike Huckabee’s website after reports that Josh Duggar molested underage girls including his sisters. Huckabee has defended the Duggars and blasted the media’s coverage of the matter.

Larry Ellison — The billionaire Oracle founder hosted a fundraiser for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Rick Harrison — The star of reality show “Pawn Stars” is backing Rubio, telling Fox News that the candidate “honestly cares about the American people.”

Hulk Hogan – The wrestler told TMZ that he wanted to be Trump’s running mate. 

Jesse James – The “Monster Garage” star and former “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant endorsed Trump on Facebook, calling him the “the real deal” and predicting he’ll “make America great again.”

Kid Rock — The singer told Fox News’s Megyn Kelly he supports retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, saying, “The guy makes a whole lot of sense to me.”

Anthony Mackie — The actor told BET he is backing Trump. “I’m on the bandwagon,” he said. “I’m drinking the Kool-Aid.”

Wayne Newton — “I love Donald and he would make a great president,” the entertainer told Fox News, voicing his support for Trump.

Chuck Norris — The Hollywood action star endorsed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2008 and penned an op-ed last month encouraging him to run again in 2016.

Ted Nugent — The rock star has praised Donald Trump. “His campaign is just what the working hard, playing hard American families have been waiting for,” he told WABC New York. “If he stays on course, he’s gonna be the next President of the United States.”

Paul O’Neill — The former New York Yankees outfield got a shout-out from Trump at one of his Florida events.

Tony Orlando — The singer is backing Mike Huckabee and sang at his announcement event. Orlando called Huckabee “the most trusted man I’ve ever met in my life,” according to ABC News.

Terrell Owens — The former NFL star told TMZ that Trump is “a guy who won’t put up with B.S. and has what it takes to change how government is run” in June. He previously made a pitch for a job in a potential Trump administration.

Phil Robertson – The “Duck Dynasty” star says “Ted Cruz is my man,” but his son is backing Donald Trump.

Willie Robertson – The “Duck Dynasty” star split from his Ted Cruz-supporting dad to back Donald Trump, calling him a “real leader.” He initially backed Bobby Jindal.

John Rocker – The famously outspoken and retired MLB player endorsed Trump in a Daily Caller interview, saying the candidate has “really woken America up”.

Dennis Rodman — The former NBA all-star called Donald Trump “a great friend for many years” in a tweet. “We don’t need another politician, we need a businessman like Mr. Trump!”

Charlie Sheen – The actor and self-described #winner tweeted that he’d be Trump’s “VP in a heartbeat”.

Kevin Sorbo — The “Hercules” star says he could support either Gov. Bobby Jindal (La.) or Gov. Scott Walker (Wis.).

Paul Teutul — The “American Chopper” reality star and owner of Orange County Choppers endorsed Trump in a Facebook video, calling him “the guy that’s going to make America great again!”

Mike Tyson — The former heavyweight champion expressed support for Trump, saying the country should be run “like a business, where no colors matter. Whoever can do the job, gets the job.”

Jon Voight — The actor is backing Trump, calling him a “patriot.”

James Woods — The actor is doing the narration for Carly Fiorina’s campaign film. “So proud to support this remarkable woman and her historic campaign,” the actor tweeted.
