Mark Cuban: I’ll only run for president if I have solutions to offer

Business mogul and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said on Wednesday that he would only run for president if he believes he has actual solutions for some of the country’s greatest domestic issues.

In an email to Business Insider, Cuban responded to a poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) that shows him leading President Trump in a hypothetical 2020 matchup. Cuban received 42 percent support in the poll, which assumes Cuban would be the Democratic nominee. Trump received just 38 support.

“These are always entertaining,” Cuban told Business Insider. “As I have said before, I would only run if I can come up with solutions for healthcare, the plight of working families and reducing the stress levels of our country.”

Cuban did not rule out a 2020 run against Trump.

“It’s possible. When I have something to offer, I will.”

The star of ABC’s “Shark Tank” has seen a slight rise in support in recent months while Trump’s support has dipped. The same PPP poll in February showed Cuban with just 40 percent support compared with 41 for the GOP president.

2024 Election Coverage

In March, Cuban hinted that he was considering a 2020 run for president. He described Trump as a “threat” in an email to Business Insider, and said that he had spoken with his family about a possible future in politics.

“We discussed how much of a threat I believe Trump to be,” Cuban said in March. “We discussed why it was important to me to get involved — that if I could have an impact and didn’t try, it would have left me guessing forever.”
