Report: GOP donors can’t get in touch with Kid Rock

As Kid Rock flirts with a possible Senate bid in Michigan, some GOP consultants and donors are struggling to get in contact with the singer through the state’s Republican network, Vice News reported Thursday.

Despite talking with his public relations staff, the rock singer — real name Robert Ritchie — appears to be rebuffing the efforts of GOP officials, the news outlet reported, citing conversations with multiple Republicans.

“I’ve had two of the largest donors in the country who wanted to talk to Kid Rock and reach out to him who basically have said they would support his candidacy if he were to run. And they’ve offered to do an event for him in New York and elsewhere. And he just hasn’t responded,” Saul Anuzis, the former chairman of the state Republican Party, told Vice News.

{mosads}“And I’ve talked to people who I know are personal friends of his as well as his PR people. So I think he’s being very coy and close to the vest on this stuff, and that’s why people are questioning whether he’s sincere and how real he is.”

While most Republicans still believe a bid is unlikely, they are excited by the possibility of a rock star with both deep pockets and widespread name recognition throwing his name into the mix. Some party members in the state believe Ritchie is their best hope for defeating the Democratic incumbent, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (Mich.).

Buzz about a Ritchie run began when the Detroit Free Press reported in February that a member of the state GOP’s central committee suggested the singer as a possible candidate.

Kid Rock has reportedly started talking about wealth redistribution as well as transgender rights after completing his first song throughout his concert series in Michigan this week.

Ritchie started his Tuesday concert in Detroit by walking out on stage “Hail to the Chief” while donning a giant “Kid Rock For Senate” logo overhead, Vice News reported.
