Scarborough pens op-ed tearing into Trump allies for criticizing Mueller

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough tore into President Trump’s allies in a new Washington Post op-ed, calling those who have criticized special counsel Robert Mueller in recent days a “desperate” and “miserable crew.”

In the op-ed, the former GOP lawmaker and “Morning Joe” host called out the “sycophants” who appeared in a Fox News segment that Trump touted this week to criticize an FBI raid on his lawyer’s office.

“The president’s response to the Michael Cohen search, duly authorized by an independent federal judge, was to reflexively trash law-enforcement officers, undermine the rule of law and slander a Vietnam War hero who has committed his adult life to the service of America,” Scarborough writes, referring to Mueller’s service in Vietnam.

Scarborough, a frequent Trump critic, specifically called out former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), attorney Joseph diGenova and Fox News host Sean Hannity for not serving in Vietnam.

“Such bravery and dedication to the United States could never have been shown on the battlefield by the miserable crew who lined up to attack the special counsel,” he writes.

Gingrich appeared on Hannity’s show, where he compared the Cohen raid to “the Gestapo in Germany.”

{mosads}And diGenova, a prominent attorney who did not join Trump’s legal team earlier this year due to conflicts of interest, pushed Trump to fire deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein in a recent interview.

“DiGenova, Gingrich and Sean Hannity … seem all too comfortable attacking an American war hero who has spent his life honorably serving this country in times of war and peace,” Scarborough writes.

He adds that Trump and his allies have “reason to be rattled,” citing recent polls that show the public wants Mueller to continue his investigation unimpeded, as rumors swirl that Trump may be gearing up to fire Mueller.

“Regardless how Mueller’s investigation ends, Trump will one day leave Washington,” Scarborough writes. “And when he does, the steady stream of attacks on Justice Department professionals, FBI agents and all the honorable men and women who daily defend Americans against enemies foreign and domestic will forever stain the reputations of Trump’s most shameless apologists.”
