Mormon Tabernacle Choir to perform at inauguration: report

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, The Washington Post reports. 

The choir, which is based in Salt Lake City, has performed at five previous inaugurations, including for Presidents Johnson, Nixon and George H.W. Bush. 

Trump had the lowest amount of support among Mormons of any other GOP presidential nominee, the Post notes. 

{mosads}Exit polls show Trump only received 61 percent support among Mormon voters, compared with the 80 percent that voted for George W. Bush in 2004 and the 78 percent that supported fellow Mormon Mitt Romney in 2012. 

Many voters instead supported third-party candidate Evan McMullin, who is also a Mormon. 

“Singing the music of America is one of the things we do best. We are honored to be able to serve our country by providing music for the inauguration of our next president,” said Ron Jarrett, the president of the choir, on the church’s website.
