WikiLeaks: Ecuador cut off Julian Assange’s internet

The anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks on Monday afternoon said that the Ecuadorian government has cut off founder Julian Assange’s internet connection.

{mosads}Assange is currently living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, avoiding a Swedish rape charge. Leaving the embassy to address the charges, he says, would result in his extradition to the United States.

WikiLeaks on Monday morning tweeted that Assange’s internet connection had been “intentionally severed by a state party.”

“We can confirm Ecuador cut off Assange’s internet access Saturday, 5pm GMT, shortly after publication of Clinton’s Goldman Sachs speechs [sic],” the account tweeted Monday afternoon.

The embassy declined to comment on Monday.

WikiLeaks has been publishing thousands of documents stolen from the personal email account of Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta.

Over the weekend, the organization released the transcripts of three paid speeches Clinton made to Goldman Sachs.

Assange has not left the Ecuadorian Embassy since 2012.
