Man to plead guilty to hacking CIA head

A North Carolina man accused of hacking the personal email account of CIA Director John Brennan is set to plead guilty Friday, Politico reported.

Justin Liverman, known as “D3F4ULT” on the internet, is also accused of hacking the emails of numerous other government officials.

Liverman will appear in front of a federal judge in Alexandria, Va., where he is expected to plead guilty to conspiring to violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

The government has accused Liverman of being a part of a hacker group called “Crackas with Attitude” that allegedly passed hacked information to WikiLeaks.

{mosads}According to Politico, the hackers extracted sensitive government information, including a government security clearance application. The hackers also allegedly harassed and threatened their targets.

Unlike the groups purportedly behind the Democratic National Committee hacks during the 2016  presidential election, though, federal authorities do not believe that “Crackas with Attitude” are connected to the Russian government.

The group’s leader, according to the report, was based in the United Kingdom.

Liverman faces a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison.
