Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani wished the Jewish people a happy new year in a tweet.

“May our shared Abrahamic roots deepen respect & bring peace & mutual understanding. L’Shanah Tovah. #RoshHashanah,” he wrote Sunday night.

{mosads}The tweet did not appear in the Farsi version of his Twitter, The Associated Press reported Monday.

This is the second time Rouhani has wished the Jewish people a happy new year online.

In 2013, shortly after taking office, he tweeted, “As the sun is about to set here in #Tehran I wish all Jews, especially Iranian Jews, a blessed Rosh Hashanah.”

Rouhani’s more moderate tone compared with his predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad helped open the doors for the nuclear agreement set to take effect next month.

Still, Iran does not recognize Israel and backs anti-Israeli militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. As such, some lawmakers are worried the nuclear deal poses a threat to Israel.
