Green group expects huge jump in spending for midterms

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) plans to spend $25 million on campaigns this year, a substantial increase from the last midterms.

LCV President Gene Karpinski told the Washington Post that a majority of the five-fold increase in spending would go to Senate races, as Democrats control of the upper chamber hangs in the balance.

{mosads}“We are poised to make, by far, the biggest investment we’ve ever made in elections,” Karpinski told the Post.

He added that the conservation group is “making climate change part of the conversation” in races across the country.

The group is not alone: a number of green groups, from billionaire Tom Steyer’s NextGen Climate to the Sierra Club and the Environmental Defense Fund, are spending more than before to make climate change and environmental issues key in races.
