Greens to protest Keystone outside Landrieu’s DC home

A number of environmental activists will protest the Keystone XL oil pipeline on Monday outside the Washington, D.C., home of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.)

Landrieu, who is facing a tough runoff election in December, pushed for a vote on the oil sands project in the Senate last week and is one vote shy of the 60 needed to pass the legislation.

{mosads}The Senate is scheduled to vote on a bill that would approve construction of the Canada-to-Texas pipeline on Tuesday, after the House voted to pass similar legislation last week.

Environmentalists aren’t happy about the move and will protest the pipeline outside Landrieu’s home.

Nebraskans, local students and climate activists will be among those protesting, said 350.org, one of the green groups organizing the rally.

Opponents of the pipeline argue that the project will accelerate the development of oil sands, significantly contributing to climate change.

Demonstrators will have an inflatable pipeline that they plan to lay across Landrieu’s front yard, according to 350.org.
