China hikes tariffs on some optical fiber products from US

China is raising “anti-dumping tariff rates” for some U.S. optical fiber products, Reuters reported Tuesday.

The new rates for dispersion unshifted single-mode optical fiber will fall between 33.3 percent and 78.2 percent and will go into effect on Wednesday, according to a statement from China’s commerce ministry.

That could be a significant hike for U.S. companies, who previously saw rates between 4.7 percent and 18.6 percent, according to Reuters.

The impacted American companies include Corning Inc, OFS Fitel, LLC and Draka Communications Americas Inc, Reuters reported.

China has imposed retaliatory tariffs on American imports in response to President Trump’s hefty tariffs on Chinese products.

Trump has been widely critical of China on trade. The country has accused Trump of sparking “the biggest trade war in economic history.”
